Collaborating with my son
I have a soft spot for my 9-year-old son’s drawings. He doesn’t regard his own drawing skills very highly, but I just think they are so expressive and imaginative! I honestly don’t know how to go back to that level of purity in my own sketches – I have been conditioned to draw with my mind for too long, I suspect. Daniel loses interest fairly quickly and doesn’t often finish, so when he refused to colour in this gorgeous drawing of two Transformers (his current obsession) I decided to finish them myself with a bit of watercolour and colour pencil. To balance the composition a bit better, I added some shadows and imagined them being lit from behind. I just love the result! He’s pretty impressed too 🙂

This next drawing of Bumblebee became an invitation to his birthday party, which he gifted to his best friend.
